Today’s Play of the Day is THE INVASION OF ELEANOR. This one-act play, set in modern-day New York City, explores the complexities of family dynamics when faced with the challenges of aging.

Eleanor, a spry 80-something woman with a personality that’s a cross between Betty White and Baby Jane Hudson, is the matriarch of the family. Her flirtatious behavior leads to her expulsion from her residential facility, forcing her to move in with her daughter’s family.

THE INVASION OF ELEANOR takes a deep dive into the family’s dysfunction, which is intensified as Eleanor shares a bedroom with her LGBTQA+ granddaughter, Ellie. The interactions between the characters are both hilarious and heart-wrenching, providing a realistic portrayal of a family grappling with the challenges of aging, identity, and acceptance.

Adding to the drama is a subplot involving the family’s neighbor, Mr. Taylor. Eleanor’s eccentric behavior leads to a peculiar bond with Mr. Taylor, a retired cop. The suspense builds when Eleanor spots a mysterious woman in Mr. Taylor’s apartment, leading to an investigation that adds an element of mystery to the family drama.

The play is a must-see for anyone who appreciates a well-crafted family drama that doesn’t shy away from the realities of life.

THE INVASION OF ELEANOR will be released in paperback later this year. It is available for licensing directly from the author. Send us an email if you’d like to do a production.
