Play of the Day: A BITE OUT OF BROADWAY

A BITE OUT OF BROADWAYArmondo Vespucci of Vespucci Theatricals brings bargain basement versions of popular plays to his unsuspecting audience. He suffered for his art, now it’s your turn. One act, approx. 20 minutes
by Bambi Everson

A BITE OUT OF BROADWAY is a delightful one-act play that takes the audience on a whirlwind tour of Broadway, but not in the way you might expect. The play is set in the community room of The Pushing Daisies retirement home, where Armondo Vespucci of Vespucci Theatricals brings bargain basement versions of popular plays to his unsuspecting audience. He proudly proclaims, “I have seen nothing and I’m proud of it! I realized, it’s being able to SAY you went, that is the big deal.”

The play is a hilarious parody of Broadway hits like HAMILTON, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, and LES MISERABLES. The actors, who are clearly embarrassed but committed to their craft, perform these plays in the most unconventional ways. For instance, their rendition of HAMILTON is performed without music due to their accordion player’s unfortunate bout of food poisoning.

The play is filled with quirky characters, from the overzealous Armondo Vespucci to the disgruntled actors, each bringing their unique flavor to the performance. The humor is sharp, the dialogue is witty, and the situations are absurd, making A BITE OUT OF BROADWAY a must-see for anyone who enjoys a good laugh.

A BITE OUT OF BROADWAY will be released in paperback later this year, as part of a collection of short plays. It is available for licensing directly from the author. Send us an email if you’d like to do a production.
